End period poverty campaign returns to KAS

27th March 19

The KAS society of Equals have been looking at period poverty and are taking steps to help. Society members Alma and Bea explain the campaign they’re running next week at KAS:

“Period [.] is a campaign to combat Period Poverty. Period Poverty is a growing issue around the world and in the UK. Our club was saddened by research which showed that 1 in 10 girls is unable to afford sanitary products, and are forced to use less hygienic options, such as newspaper. You may remember a BBC report that shocked the nation by revealing that girls in Leeds routinely miss school because they cannot afford feminine hygiene products. This needs to stop. Period.

Our initiative will support two important charities fighting to end period poverty. We are collecting feminine hygiene products to donate to Bloody Good Period, an amazing local charity fighting period poverty by giving products to women who can’t afford them including asylum seekers and school age girls. We will also fundraise in aid of Freedom4Girls, a great charity that supplies reusable sanitary products to girls in need both in the UK and the developing world.

Period Campaign Week, Monday 1 April – Friday 5 April

Join our campaign the week of Monday 1 April to Friday 5 April We will run an info stand in the main hall at lunch where you can find out more about this important issue. Come collect campaign material such as posters and stickers to share!

A donation box will be available all week for dropping off new, unopened boxes of feminine hygiene products.

Big Campaign Day, Wednesday 3 April: On Wednesdays We Wear Red!

Our big campaign day is Wednesday 3 April. Wear red and donate £1 to go to Freedom4Girls. We’ll be collecting at the gates and watching for your best red outfit. Remember “On Wednesdays we wear red!” You can also drop off donations of feminine hygiene products on Wednesday – we’ll be ready to receive them! This is just a small step, but it paves the road to one day ending period poverty.

Get involved!

Want to help out? Visit us in the lunch hall on Monday to volunteer. And join the Society of Equals, every Wednesday 1:30 in Geography 2!

Thanks for supporting the Period [.] campaign!
