Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 were inspired by visiting poet Adisa earlier this term. He came in on National Poetry Day to perform and run workshops.
The students listened to Adisa perform his own work and the work of other poets before they grabbed their clipboards to have a go themselves. They wrote poems based around their theme for the term ‘Rebel, Rebel’ and took turns to perform their work in front of their peers.
World Poetry Day was also the launch of the annual poetry competition run by the English Department. This year the theme was ‘The Environment’.
Acting Head of English, Zoe said: “We were impressed by the entries, not only the words but the presentation of the work too. We chose three winners; Ahaan Y9, Bea Y9, Jacob Y8 and we also awarded the inaugural ‘William Blake Award for Teaming Words and Image’ to Filippo in Y7.
