6th March 23
In honour of World Book Day, we spent last week celebrating our love of all things books.
In the Lower School, we’ve had some incredible guests come to visit our students including author Lia Thompson, author Sam Copeland, author and storyteller Wendy Shearer, and illustrator Sharon King-Chai.
Sharon King-Chai ran a print making workshop with our youngest students in Reception and Year 1. The students made beautiful patterned prints using natural materials like vegetables and feathers.
The English department ran a school-wide ‘shelfie’ competition where students had to match staff to a picture of their bookshelf. The competition helped sparked conversations about reading between staff and students which is one of the aims of World Book Day.
The English department also ran a competition to encourage students to write about their favourite books. They asked students to write 100 words about why you think your favourite book should be studied in school by your year group.
While World Book Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our love of books, we have a strong emphasis on reading, writing and literacy all year round. You can read more about our Lower School Curriculum here.
On Thursday, students and staff dressed up as their favourite literary characters. There were so many creative costumes, and we loved seeing what everyone was wearing. Take a look at some of the wonderful costumes below.
The teachers showed up in some fantastic costumes too…
