The Sixth Form at KAS is a place where students are encouraged to follow their passions. With the dedicated Sixth Form Center and small year groups there is a real sense of community in Years 12 and 13.
Two students who are passionate about the written word have created a new focus for the voice of that community by publishing a new magazine. Called ‘Sixth of the Month’ (can you guess which day it comes out on?) the first issue came out just two days ago!
Co-Editors Lucy and Alma spoke about why they created the ‘Sixth of the Month’:
“We created ‘Sixth of the Month’ because we wanted to provide a space for Sixth Formers to share and learn from each other, whether that be subject-specific or hobby-related e.g. film and book recommendations. We also wanted to gain an insight into how teachers feel about controversial topics within their field that the curriculum doesn’t include, through our teacher interviews.”
When quizzed on the highs and lows of being editors they said the thing they’d struggled most with was gathering submissions, but they were obviously persistent because it’s packed with interviews and articles!
And what are their hopes for the upcoming issues? “Because it is by and for Sixth Formers, we can focus on the A level experience and building our Upper School community. We hope our peers will continue to contribute to helping our little project grow.”
