The Lower School Library was transformed into a TV studio this morning as Year 4 put their hard work into practice pitching their newly invented food products to a panel of ‘dragons’.
This Term they have been looking at persuasive writing along with marketing imagery and tactics. In small groups they were tasked with coming up with a product and then pitching it in a Dragon’s Den style business meeting. They looked at the language they could use to make their product sound appealing, who might want to buy it and where they would position it in the market. Many of the groups focused on healthy eating, sustainability and charitable aims for their companies and the pitches were confident and creative.
The panel of dragons included Heads, Robert Lobatto and Karen Thomas and Deputies Al McConville and Rachael Herman, ably accompanied by staff from across the School who took the time to listen to their presentations and ask pertinent questions.
The students had clearly prepared well for their moment in the Den. In smart outfits, with posters, presentations and mock-ups of their packaging they were put through their paces before waiting to see if they would get an offer and a handshake from a Dragon (secret side note: they all did!)
It was a great way to bring together writing, artistic creativity and public speaking skills and it was amazing to see them in action. As the dragons would say “We’re in!”
