Students secure stellar set of A level results at The King Alfred School

15th August 24

Year 13 students at The King Alfred School (KAS) were celebrating today after their hard work earned them an excellent set of A Level results.

With almost a quarter (24.7%) of all grades at A*, well over half (56.3%) of grades at A* – A and 91.3% of the grades at A* – C, today’s results at KAS stand well above both national and independent school averages.

Robert Lobatto, Head of The King Alfred School, said: “This is such a proud moment for the KAS community. These results perfectly demonstrate the strength and depth of teaching across all departments at the school.

“This dedicated and passionate group of students deserve all the success they have achieved, and we look forward to seeing their independence, creative thinking and community spirit continue to develop as they move into the next stage of their lives.”

The vast majority of KAS students will now be progressing to their chosen universities, while others will continue their education in a different setting or begin their career journey.

Our Year 13 students performed well in all subject areas. The top A* grade was awarded to students across a variety of subjects including Maths, English Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Sociology, Spanish, Art, and Drama, including UAL.

One student who was incredibly thrilled with her results was Maddie, who got A, A*, A* in Biology, History and Geography respectively.

She said: “I’m feeling really good about my results. I’m looking to go to the University of Exeter to do Geography and join the rugby team there – I’ve already been involved with their pre-season; they’re definitely one of the fittest teams! KAS has helped me immensely with getting to this day. The pastoral aspect of the school really supported me with my studies – I don’t think I’d be the same if I hadn’t come to KAS.”

Jasper, a student at KAS who joined the school in Year 9 after moving from Canada, will be going on to Imperial College, London, to study Chemistry after receiving A*, A*, A*, A.

He told us: “I was grateful to have someone who knew what to do with applying to higher education and UCAS; my parents weren’t too sure since we moved from Canada and the system is different. I never worried about anything at KAS because I knew I always had someone I could ask.”

Another student, Oona, who has been at KAS since Reception, received A, A, B. She will be taking a gap year, where she will be gaining experience working on a film set, before applying for a place at UAL in Elephant and Castle.

Oona commented: “I did a lot better than I thought, so I’m incredibly happy. During my gap year, I plan to continue building on my portfolio for UAL; I want to go into film-making, so directing, screenwriting, that sort of area. Through my time at Sixth Form, I had a lot of help with preparing for after KAS. All the teachers were really supportive, and I didn’t feel like I was alone in the process.”

KAS stands out from most other educational environments by achieving academic success without excessive pressure. The high staff to student ratio means that students enjoy close working relationships with experienced, subject-specialist teachers. This nurturing approach enables each of our Sixth Formers to be supported and guided with care, suitable to their individual needs.

Takako Yeung, Head of Sixth Form, said: “It has been a delight to work with such talented students and to help nurture them as they took on new challenges with such commitment.

“Watching them grow into confident, socially minded young adults has been a pleasure and we will continue to look on with pride as they move on to their next chapters.”
