KAStonbury 2024

The rain did not keep KAStonbury away!
KAStonbury 2024 returned after a fantastic KAS 125 celebration the year before. KASparents were brilliant in reorganising the locations of stalls and the stage in spite of the weather, allowing all to still have a great time enjoying a large range of activities, food, drinks and an extensive set list of student-led bands.
Robert, the Head, was at the event wrapped up in his rain coat! He said, “There was great community spirit at KAStonbury this year. It was brilliant to see everyone come together despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions and still have a fantastic day enjoying what was on offer.”
Along with musical performances, crowds were also treated to entertainment by our very own street dance crew and cheerleading squads, KAS Jets. The stalls on offer also ranged in their variety, from temporary tattoos to face painting, vintage jewellery to paintings, there was plenty for everyone to enjoy.
One stall was run by Year 6 student, Molly. She said:
“I make earrings and bags; I make both of them by myself. The earrings are quite quick to make, but the bags take a bit longer. I use a pattern that I created myself and choose the fabrics myself too. In Year 6, you have to choose a personal project; I decided to become an entrepreneur, so I got a stall at KAStonbury. I sold quite a few items! I feel like it was a lot better to be at KAStonbury and try to sell some items here rather than a small stall on a school day because there’s a bigger crowd here. I’ve really enjoyed being at here and getting my stuff out there.”
Year 4 student Lettie helped run a temporary tattoo and glitter stall as well as performing in the cheerleading and street dance showcase. She said:
“There was so much going on! There was everything you could think of; it was like a festival! If you haven’t been to a festival, then it’s great, but even better than a festival because you know where everything is. It was just really fun and I loved getting involved with everything – I felt like I was involved in everything.”
Music Technology teacher, Dan, compered the day’s performances and it was amazing to see students supporting, cheering and congratulating their peers on their appearances.
Year 9 student, Jacob, performed an amazing piece on the electric cello as one of the final acts at KAStonbury. We caught up with him after the event:
“KAStonbury was really interesting this year because we were indoors and the rain gave it some character! There’s a lot of talented people at KAS and KAStonbury is a great way to see what people are doing and show what goes on in school. I played the electric cello with the jazz band and, as a solo piece, I played the Star Spangled Banner; I was inspired by Jimmy Hendrix. I wanted to show people that the cello can be a cool instrument and it’s not just a background instrument.”
As part of KASparents, Ulrike helped organise KAStonbury this year. She said this about the event:
“KAStonbury 2024 was despite the weather and last minute changes due to the weather an amazing communal celebration with great music, sports and games and fun for everyone.”
