Ben Ward, KAS graduate 2016, has been awarded the Savoy Educattional Trust scholarship to study at the Edge Hotel School, University of Essex. His new university writes about the prestigious award below.

Edge Hotel School, University of Essex – Golders Green student Ben Ward has been awarded a £3,000 scholarship by the Savoy Educational Trust to help with the costs of his degree course at the Edge Hotel School, University of Essex.
Ben, who went to King Alfred School, said: “I am delighted to be a recipient of this award. I am grateful to have the money which will help pay my rent and enable me take up work experience.”
The Edge Hotel School, a partnership between the University of Essex and the Edge Foundation, is a unique concept in higher education in the UK. Students combine academic learning with practical work in the four star Wivenhoe House hotel on campus during an accelerated two-year degree course, saving valuable time and money.
The Savoy Educational Trust scholarships are designed to support talented students and encourage the outstanding hospitality managers of the future.
Ben, aged 19, took a gap year before heading to the Edge Hotel School where he is studying for a BA (Hons) in hotel management.
“I chose this degree course because it combines learning on the job with academic study. A big plus is that it takes just two years and I wasn’t keen to do a longer course – I genuinely enjoy working and what to get back out there.”
