The Alfredians Newsletter is produced twice a year. It features a blend of OA news, stories, and write ups on events and reunions, featuring plenty of photographs. The newsletter free of charge and available to all Old Alfredians and former staff.

We love to receive information from OAs so please do let us know about your latest news, any achievements or exciting changes such as births and marriages, new jobs, memories of schools, pictures from meet ups with your old school friends. Whatever it is, we’d like to feature it in the next newsletter!
We email a copy of the newsletter to OAs but can of course post a hard copy to you if you prefer. We need your current contact information so you can be included on our mailing list. Use our Old Alfredians Contact Form to ensure your details are up to date.

Visiting The King Alfred School as an Old Alfredian
We enjoy welcoming Old Alfredians to school and showing you around and hearing all about your life after KAS. Please get in touch before your visit if possible, so we can make sure we are in the office and your trip isn’t wasted. Tom Bernard, OA 1973
We were delighted to meet Tom Bernard (OA 1973) in June when he paid an impromptu visit to the school. Tom lives in California and was visiting London. He left school in 1973 and had not been back since then. We took Tom on a tour of the school with lunch in the school hall after 46 years! It’s always interesting finding out what our pupils go on to do after school and impressively, Tom is a retired NASA engineer who worked on the Space Shuttle program.
Kim Franklin, OA 1973
On a visit from his home in Spain, Kim Franklin (OA 1973) shared memories of playing football on the field, skipping PE to spend more time in his favourite language classes (time well spent obviously, as Kim travelled the world after school expanding his knowledge and is now a language teacher), and his pleasure at seeing much of the school unchanged from his time at King Alfred. For some years, Kim was instrumental in gathering Old Alfredians from his year groups together. With his help, we shall be planning another reunion of this era (KAS in the 60s and 70s), possibly even with a football match. Of his visit, Kim said: ‘I enjoyed meeting you. I’d like to help you with future KAS reunions – including a football game that mixes the current team with old teams’.
Polly Rockberger, Past Parent
Polly is a past parent who dropped in to see us in October. We greatly enjoyed hearing Polly’s memories and stories of her son Oli’s time at King Alfred. Polly is a gifted artist who keeps busy learning Farsi in her spare time and travelling. David, her husband was on Council at King Alfred School. Oli always enjoyed music from a young age, performing at the Royal Albert Hall and is now a successful musician, having recently toured with Laura Mvula. On her visit, Polly shared wonderful archival footage of Oli and band mates performing together. She also kindly donated Julian Joseph’s book to our school library entitled ‘Music of Initiative’ in which her art features heavily.
Arezoo Corrigall, Past Parent
Arezoo got in touch with us after seeing the request for memories of the Village. She brought her daughter Zoe’s wonderful scrapbook from her Village week for Stephen de Brett to look at.
