A challenging year ends on a high note for A level students

After a school year unlike any other, results day had a very different feel this year as Y13 students gathered at Manor Wood to collect their A level results.

King Alfred School students have performed brilliantly achieving the school’s best ever results with 53% of the grades at A*-A, and 80% of the grades A* – B and a 100% pass rate. After a year defined by uncertainty, there was a sense of closure and excitement about taking their next steps to university with almost all students securing a place at their first-choice university.

Students are going on to study at universities across the UK, from Cambridge to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Bristol, Leeds, Goldsmiths, York and many more. Picking up their yearbooks and hoodies there was a huge sense of excitement from students about moving on to the next stage of their education after months of uncertainty.

Georgina who achieved three A*, said: “I’m really pleased about my results, they were what I needed to get my place at Cambridge to study History. King Alfred has been amazing, this school is the reason I have these results. The teachers are the best people I’ve ever met and helped me so much.”

Luca earned two A* and one A grade: “I’m thrilled by my results, obviously I’m sad to leave King Alfred as I’ve been here since Reception. This school has made me who I am and supported me to achieve to my best potential. I’m off to Bristol to study Economics and Innovation which I’m looking forward to.”

Megan is an Old Alfredian who has been working at the school for the past year supporting Sixth Formers with their University Applications – she herself is returning to Birmingham to study English Literature
