Namibia trip captured in student-made film

When students from Y12 visited Namibia earlier this year – they benefitted from the trip just as much as the school they were volunteering at. One of our Old Alfredians has made a beautiful film of the experience.
In July we returned to Namibia with a group of Y12 students to continue our work with local schools there.
Last year we started a new relationship with Okonwe School having spent 13 years working with Abraham Gariseb School which is now self-sufficient and flourishing.
The difference we were able to make this year was really noticeable. We redecorated three of the large dorms, which now look immaculate and inviting. The kids at the school can now eat under the shade of the new outdoor seating area we created in the courtyard.
One of the most striking memories of this year’s trip was watching the students of Okongwe clamber onto their newly constructed playground and sing a thank you to our students for building it, as the sun set behind the hills.
The landscape in Namibia is remarkable, beautiful but stark, saturated in pink and orange light, in the second week, we moved from one camp to the next, following the Ugab river from one extraordinary location to another.
A stand out memory of our trek was visiting a Herero tribal wedding on our first day in the desert. Just one of many amazing memories which will stay with us of our trip to Damaraland.
