Here at The King Alfred School we are extremely proud of what we are able to offer: a warm, friendly, nurturing environment where children are supported to develop a love of learning which we hope will continue beyond the years they spend with us. We are interested in both how we teach and what we teach in order to provide experiences that are relevant, inspiring and challenging for our learners.
At KAS we offer an alternative educational approach to many other schools. In the Lower School there are no exams, everyone is on first name terms and we have no uniform. These are just very small indicators of a much deeper philosophy; our belief in the importance of mutual respect; our understanding that children are individuals who will not benefit from a ‘one size fits all’ approach, as well as the freedom we allow for children to explore and discover.
Our approach ensures we work from a child’s current understandings and abilities. Whilst fully appreciating internationally recognised expectations, we allow ourselves to focus on each individual’s next steps in learning across the curriculum, at a pace which works best for them. Each year our rich and balanced range of learning experiences tend to each child’s personal, social, academic and physical development.
We believe that learning should be joyful and that childhood is precious. Our wonderful team of staff work very hard to ensure the children come to us each day with big smiles on their faces, excited about the learning their day may bring.
Choosing the right school for your child is an extremely important decision so do take some time to read about life in the Lower School and the guiding principles which drive us.
To find out more about us please come along to an Open Day or make an appointment to come and talk – I look forward to meeting you!
