First Elected/ Appointed: 2014

Profession: Journalist

About: I joined Council in 2014 and served as Chair from 2017 to 2023. My professional background is journalism. I have been both a staff and freelance writer for national newspapers for over 20 years.

As Chair it was my guiding principle that while fulfilling Council’s legal responsibilities to the highest possible standard, we were always mindful of the founding aims of the Society: in short, for the school to be a beacon of educational good-practice whilst remaining steadfastly child-centred in its approach.

Becoming President allows me to bring together my in-depth understanding of the values and history of the Society with my hands-on operational knowledge of the school, in an outward and future-facing role. During my time as Chair, I took pride in building strong and cooperative working relationships across the community and I will continue in this spirit, adding capacity across the operational and governance teams as we work towards the shared goals of creating an educational environment which will enable our students to flourish in the world they are living in and contributing to the broader educational conversation.

Independent education is facing unprecedented challenges. As President, I will represent the Society, defining its role more clearly within the KAS community and in wider networks. Above all, my ambition is to develop the Society to a level where it could fulfil the founders’ ambition of contributing to a better education for the many, not just for the few.

My three children have all attended KAS.
