Clare Jarmy

First appointed: 2024

About: I am currently Director of Innovation across the Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools, responsible for innovation strategy from ages 4 to 18. My work spans curriculum design, AI and digital strategy, and research and development. Prior to this, I have a number of years’ experience as a senior leader in progressive schools, and have coached many teachers through course creation and professional development. My hope is that my background will bring insight to KAS’s own development as a school rooted in progressive principles but unafraid to adapt and evolve.

I am an educationalist with a long-standing interest in progressive education. Before joining the school Council, I followed the school’s work for some time and admired its thoughtful approach to curriculum and child-centred education. I put myself forward because I believe in the importance of progressive, child-centred education. I hoped to contribute my experience in curriculum innovation and strategic development to support the school in continuing to be both forward-looking and rooted in strong values.

I’m particularly interested in curriculum and assessment design, teacher development, and the use of technology in thoughtful, purposeful ways. I believe these areas lie at the heart of how schools can serve children well — not just preparing them for the future, but offering them a rich educational experience in the present. I am a big fan of Montessori’s view that education doesn’t just matter because of the future people our students will become, but is valuable in the here and now.

I hope to be a thoughtful contributor to the Council’s work, offering both strategic insight and educational expertise. I’d like to support KAS in remaining true to its progressive ethos while engaging with the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing educational landscape.
